George Orwell and Today's Truthers

If you can keep your wits about yourself and dare plunge into the depths of websites like DailyKOS and the Democratic Underground, you'll find a den of inequity, hellholes filled to the brim with anarchists, burned out hippies, conspiracy theorists and race-baiting liberals all ravenously feeding off each other's self-induced paranoias. Buried deep within the ninth circle of these hellholes is where you will find the tormented treacherous souls who are often referred to today as the "truthers".

The "truthers" are diverse group all collectively obsessing over a multitude of issues. Whether it's the alleged 9/11 coverup or Karl Rove's mysterious weather machine, the truthers are always able to find a conspiracy to fuel their self-inflicted psychoses. As they delve deeper into their paranoias, the madness eventually begins to manifest itself and many of the "truthers", like this one here seem to ultimately slip from the bounds of sanity. To paraphrase Ann Coulter, it's at this point when perhaps a baseball bat becomes the only key to their salvation.

The common denominator that all "truthers" seem to share is that they are pacifists who have come to the foregone conclusion that the government is being controlled by a evil neocon cabal and that the United States is somehow the root of all the world's evil. The objective of this evil neocon cabal according to "truthers" is the implementation of a totalitarian government reminiscent of George Orwell's "1984". And this is where it gets interesting...

The irony of all of this is that during the second world war, Eric Arthur Blair, better known by his pen name George Orwell also found himself unable to understand what could possibly fuel the madness of individuals like today's "truthers". It's amazing to say the least, the similarities of today's "truthers" and the pacifists of the past.

"...England is perhaps the only great country whose intellectuals are ashamed of their own nationality. In left-wing circles it is always felt that there is something slightly disgraceful in being an Englishman and that it is a duty to snigger at every English institution, from horse racing to suet puddings. It is a strange fact, but it is unquestionably true that almost any English intellectual would feel more ashamed of standing to attention during 'God save the King' than of stealing from a poor box. All through the critical years many left-wingers were chipping away at English morale, trying to spread an outlook that was sometimes squashily pacifist, sometimes violently pro-Russian, but always anti-British. It is questionable how much effect this had, but it certainly had some. If the English people suffered for several years a real weakening of morale, so that the Fascist nations judged that they were 'decadent' and that it was safe to plunge into war, the intellectual sabotage from the Left was partly responsible..." -- George Orwell, "The Lion and the Unicorn" (1941)

"... The majority of pacifists either belong to obscure religious sects or are simply humanitarians who object to the taking of life and prefer not to follow their thoughts beyond that point. But there is a minority of intellectual pacifists whose real though unadmitted motive appears to be hatred of western democracy and admiration of totalitarianism. Pacifist propaganda usually boils down to saying that one side is as bad as the other, but if one looks closely at the writings of younger intellectual pacifists, one finds that they do not by any means express impartial disapproval but are directed almost entirely against Britain and the United States. Moreover they do not as a rule condemn violence as such, but only violence used in defense of western countries..." -- George Orwell, from "Notes on Nationalism" (1945)

Today's truthers represent a dangerous evolutionary development in this sociopsychological phenomenon, one that should not be ignored. In an effort to counter the further development of this widespread hysteria perhaps the government might consider reopening our laboratories at Area 51 so that that the anal probes can commence without further delay.

  2. LOL sorry about that.

Despite the fact that this post ended up to be tongue in cheek - this "sociopsychological collective hysteria" needs to be addressed.

Reading the post from that one women really gave me the heebie-jeebies.

The fact that these imbeciles are capable of dangerous self-radicalization should be much more of a concern today than it is though.
